[In theaters, part the second]

A week ago I had no stand-up-and-cheer favorite film of the year. Now, all that has changed, for mine eyes have seen The History Boys. Seriously, you guys. It is better than Dead Poets Society. For those of you who don't like DPS, it's DPS with working class boys and minus the over-the-top angst. For those of you who like DPS, it's DPS, but English, canon gay, and better writing. For the three people on the planet who don't know, it's the film of the play starring the original cast. And for all of you, it is FANTASTIC. I might be a little obsessed. Fair warning. It was all I could do when it was over to not turn right around and go see it again.

(That said, I still think there is something oddly unfinished about Stephen Campbell Moore. Perhaps it's that he has no lips. I still like him! And he is excellent in this role. Everyone is excellent!)

I missed the family excursion to this movie because of my sucktastic illness, but my Dad really wanted us all to go because HE went to a grammar school Just Like This One.

You have a resource! You can quiz him about THE GAY. Hee.

We talked about it at Christmas dinner! He said that in his day, being gay (or at least, engaging in THE GAY) was illegal - kind of like Texas today, then? I asked - and although he realized later that a couple of kids in his class were likely gay, no teacher he ever heard of was accused of it or open about it.

i just watched this and there were many squees and many times i thought OMG i'm going to have to watch this again tonight. soon i'll have more intelligent things to say. for now: nguh.

i was thinking about that unfinished-lips business with SCM - it's a little unsettling, but in a good way.

It's the first film in a long time that I went to see twice in the theater. SO GREAT.

Yay :)
